Frame 8
Dr. F. B. MEYER was a preacher with a deep love for the Lord Jesus Christ, a ministry that covered thousands of miles by railway train, and a knowledge of God's Living Word the Bible which he revealed to countless numbers with quiet powerful style that touched hearts and changed life's.
He was a preacher of peculiar and compelling power. There was a quality about his faith in the Saviour and a depth about his exposition of God's Word that was impressive in an outstanding degree. He came from a Quaker background and ancestry. He was calm and serene and particularly in later years there was a saintliness about him that could be felt. He was a Christian Preacher with a compassion for the people that came from his daily walking with Jesus Christ.
Quietly, persuasively, serenely, and in silver tones he preached the Gospel of the redeeming love of Jesus, through His Blood shed for the remission of human sin on the Cross at Calvary. The phrasing was simple, with the simplicity of art that conceals art, the imagery peaceful and pastoral "Like an English valley washed with sunlight." He preached to all men a wonderful Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ whose healing dress is ever by our beds of pain, who brings comfort, forgiveness to those who repent of their sins, and makes all things new through His so great salvation. Many believed and were saved by grace.
As the Dr. preached the 'Word', his countenance seemed transfigured; with a radiant face and in a quiet, gracious way he led his listeners towards a great final act of decision and dedication to the Lord. His preaching profoundly affected countless lives.
F. B. Meyer wrote a number of books with a freshness, simplicity, and profound insight into the promises of God and the need of man. He writes out of a deep experience of fellowship and communion with God and with a vast experience of preaching ministry. His expository works include:
Gospel of John
The Prophet of Hope - Zechariah
Peter
Christ in Isaiah
The Way Into The Holiest - Hebrews
Tried By Fire -1st Peter
Dr. Parker said of F. B. MEYER "He brings a benediction with him, a better air than earth's poor murky climate, and he never leaves me without the impression than I have been face to face with a man of God." It was because of this power from the Lord Jesus, that he was able to throw such a vision on the drab canvas of our common life, and become one of the preachers who could lead the souls of men out of the shadow into the sunlight of God's eternal love.
