The MNLA began a guerrilla campaign, targeting mainly the  tin mines and rubber plantations The guerrilla campaign lasted until 1960 when a ceasefire was established.

But it did not finally end until the signing of the Peace Treaty between the communists and the Government of Malaya in December 1989.

SOEs involvement

After the War had ended and the Japanese had surrendered, the MPAJA were disbanded in December, 1945 and officially it should have turned all of its weapons in to the British Military Administration.  However, many weapons were not returned, but were stashed for possible future use.

The Malay emergency as it was called lasted Ten years, and was fought by the very Chinese and Malay communist guerrillas the SOE had trained and equipped  during World War II at STS 101 Tanjong Balia.

Throughout all this, two of SOEs trainers from STS101 Davis and Broom were advisors to the Malay and British government coordinating there various strategies aimed at defeating the communist threat.
