There is nowt wrong with me
I’m as healthy as can be
I have arthritis in me knee
And when I talk,
I talk with a wheeze
Arched supports
I have on me feet
I wouldn’t be able
To walk in your street
Me pulse is weak
And me blood is thin
But I’m awfully fine
For the shape as I’m in
I’ve served king and country
I’ve fought with the best
If you think I’m the worse
Just look at the rest
I’ve been many places
And seen many sights
Walked strange ground
And climbed strange heights
A soldier am I
For freedom we went
Out to the battle
Till all had been spent
The bodies
Both friend and foe
There names now the same
That of john doe |
While the enemies asleep
Ill have a quick drag
You see I’m no fool
Theirs no light on me fag
My hair so dark
And now gone thin
Me ears so sharp
That sound, that din
The war has taken its last
The stories now told
Echo of the past
It was not for the glory
Or honour we went
Its just for the ride
Each of us were sent
It’ll’ be over by Christmas
They said
We’ll teach them what for
But now, there all dead
Me eyes once bright
Are now so dim
But I’m bloody good
For the way as I’m in
Me hands that were strong
Now lose there grip
The voice now comes
From a weakening lip |
We look back
Our days are all short
Memories are good
I know it’s the port
Sleep is denied me
Night after night
But every morning
I find I’m alright
I’m not Charles Atlas
You must agree
I look in the mirror
At what I can see
Me memories fading
Me heads in a spin
But I'm terribly good
For the age as I’m in
I get up each morning
And dust off me wits
And pick up the paper
And read the obits
My names not there
Thank god I’m not dead
So I’ll have me some tea
And go back to bed
But don’t you agree
And its just a sin
But I’m awfully good
For the shape as I’m in
More this way>
