So, who is this ‘Alan Rickman’ then?
Alan is a film and theatre actor and director, most famously known for bad guys on the big screen.
What made him become an actor?
He trained to be a graphic designer after attending Latymer Upper School, this being the place he developed a taste for acting. It was at 26 he decided running his own graphics house, Graphiti, wasn’t for him and he strode off to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) to study acting for two years. This was quite an accomplishment as they only admit 30 students a year from hundreds of hopefuls!
Wow, he must be good!
He is, check out his previous work for his outstanding accomplishments.
It’s his voice that makes him distinctive isn’t it?
Yes, it is one of many things that make him stand out. His voice has been described as what ‘velvet sounds like’. Having a tight jaw as a child has worked to his advantage!
What does Alan do when he’s not acting?
I would think he has a jolly good rest! He seems to enjoy catching up with new movies and theatre plays and shows. He also attends my charity events, supporting those causes close to him and his friends.
Everyone always think he plays bad guys, but that’s not really true, is it?
No, he has played a number of “bad guys” but if you look at all his work, he has played many other types of characters. And if you asked Alan, he wouldn’t say they were “bad guys”, they were just people who saw the world in a different way to everyone else.
What else can you tell me about him?
Alan has flat feet- check out the close ups during Blow Dry!
He is good friends with Ruby Wax. They worked together in the 1970’s and became a comedy double act before Alan joined the Royal Shakespeare Company and Ruby shortly followed.
