THE AIM OF THE CLUB

Our club welcomes experienced players of all standards.

  1. Our main activity is the League competition, running from April to September and from October to March each year.
A monthly League Table shows each player's position; trophies and small prizes are awarded every season.

  2. Matches are played in groups of four. Each person plays the other three in turn; points are given for wins/aggregate scores/high scores.

  3. As far as we can, we arrange fixtures to fit the pattern of frequency (etc.) which each member selects.
They take place on weekday evenings from 7.30pm to about 10.45pm. (11.15 at the very latest).

  4. You can either host all your fixtures or play them 'away' or both, in any proportion that suits you.
However, we urge you NOT to host in your FIRST season unless you have to because of, say, disability.

  5. Apart from such 'formal' fixtures, members can arrange between themselves their own matches on any day of the week and at any time. (Valid for the League table).

  6. The current fee of £12.00 applies to the whole of a 6-month season or to any part of it.

However, if your entry is made in the second half of a season the current fee will cover the whole of the NEXT one as well. (In such a case, eligibility for prizes etc. will start in that season)

  7. Sunday Drives.
For 2007 the Drive venues are Swiss Cottage (alternatives: Northwood/Harrow Weald), Chigwell and New Malden.
All places are open to all, with new faces welcome. The entry fee for Drives is £4.00. Please see the separate entry for Sunday Drives to see confirmed dates, how to get there, what to bring and starting times.

  • Club Nights.
In addition to Sunday Drives, the regular Drive venue at Hendon (The 77 Bridge Club, 81a Brent Street, Hendon) plays host to a "Club Night". Every fourth Tuesday of the month you can turn up from 7.00pm, and stay as late as you like subject to keyholder locking up. There will be no set number of games, no one is arranging fixtures and there are no prizes - just see who else is there and ready to play, and start playing. You can play any way you like as long as you both agree - play with OSWI open for consultation, play with timers, play penalty or double challenge, anything goes. Please bring a deluxe Scrabble set and OSW International if you attend. Tea and coffee will be available and the cost is £2 per head. You are even allowed to bring other word games like Jarnac, Boggle or Countdown.
N.B. London League scheduled fixtures take priority so please don't cancel in order to attend.

STOP PRESS NEWS: We tried really hard to make the evening club night a success, but for various reasons (mainly due to fixture clashes), the Tuesday evening club night trial will finish on 28th March. Thanks to everyone who supported us.
