EXT.BUM BAG+POUCHES: Inexpensive extending bum bag by Regatta with mesh straps. Reinforced at stress points on home sewing machine. A Hi-Gear bum bag was modified to fit onto hip belt with the addition of belt loops adding another 128gms to the extending bum bag. A further 41gms added with an insulated Hi-Gear bottle pouch. Total: 517gms (Yeoman's Outdoor £10+5)

TENT: McKinley Solo with trimming (removed shock cord, gear loft, stuff sac, etc.) - reduced from initial 1.4kg (as purchased) Total: 1230gms (Nevisport £99.99)

GROUND INSULATION: Cascade Designs Ridgerest (cut down) 199gms. A reflecting foil pad cut from a windscreen sun reflector - various uses. Can be used under lower legs - wraps around trunk under jacket or can be worn next to skin if desired - wind shield etc. Foam plastic backing - more substantial than space blanket - 70gms. Total: 269gms (Nevisport £20 & Bucket shop £1)

SLEEPING BAG: RAB Alpine Summit 300. Some slight trimming - toggles for tarbuck knots etc. No stuff sac.- unnecessary as fits well into bum bag. Plastic bag adds 18gms. Total: 782gms (Hitch and Hike £150)

RAINWEAR: A Ron Hill cycling top chosen - lightest top to hand. S/Downs can be changeable though. Polystyrene visor added 3gms (useless - soon cracked!) Total: 203gms (Yeoman's Outdoor £15)

KITCHEN: Gas preferred. Pan handle reduced to 1/4 size - just enough to hold with rim of pan. Assorted matches in windproof match screw-top canister. 2litre Platypus only half filled - makes a flatter pack than full. Lemonade bottle as hip flask. Add 2 litres carried max. (2 kilos)
