University of Liverpool Centre For Continuing Education - History

Listings are usually published in August and open days held early September, but conferences and day schools may be added during the academic year. Credits are available for most courses towards formal awards.

CERTIFICATE HE (HISTORICAL STUDIES)

The Certificate HE (Historical Studies) is offered by the School of History through the CE programme and is aimed at those part-time students who wish to gain a formal award from their studies. Students will be expected to complete a programme of study which totals 120 credits from a list of specified modules. Some modules are taught outside Liverpool. Modules currently offered are indicated by the symbol HS in this prospectus.

CERTIFICATE IN LOCAL HISTORY

The Certificate in Local History is a two-year, part-time course, with a dissertation at the end of the second year. Students can, however, attend for just one year if they wish but they will not be eligible for award of the Certificate. Completion of the Certificate may be a route to further study.

M.A. IN LOCAL HISTORY

Prospectus and list of dissertations; The course is the most comprehensive of its kind in England. It aims to provide you with a training, up to basic research level, in the 'Leicester' approach to English Local History as a subject that is comparative across the nation: topographically grounded; increasingly cultural in its concerns; interdisciplinary in its methodologies (including appreciation of the wide potential of IT). The course is thus designed to furnish an up-to-date springboard from which teachers, educationalists, heritage workers, museum curators, archaeologists or potential Ph.D. students may then take off for their own particular needs. Students also include those who wish to study local history as a leisure interest.

MA in Landscape, Heritage and Society

The MA in Landscape, Heritage and Society is a two-year, part-time modular programme, which is designed to:
provide students with the opportunity to acquire a broad understanding and appreciation of the historical development of the British landscape in relation to human activities examine, in greater depth, selected themes and topics in a national, regional or local context explore the ways in which the historical landscape and physical heritage of Britain have been managed, conserved, interpreted and presented by past and present generations.
