Hypoxia Events Summary

1) What symptoms did you experience?
shortness of breath, laboured breathing

2) How did you recognise the event?
same as above; felt I was working too hard for the actual activity (I was starting to ascend from a shipwreck with a small artefact in my hand)

3) What depth were you at, been to and were you diving/ surfacing etc?
max depth of the dive was 112 ft in fresh water with temp about 38 degrees F. I was at approx. 90-100 ft when I started to feel the symptoms

 4) How long had you been submerged?
45 minutes

5) How much time did the scrubber have on it before the event?
just that dive (so ~45 min)

6) What do you think caused the incident?
I was a new Inspiration diver at the time (it was my 5th Inspiration dive), and I switched my set point back to 0.7 before I ascended. then when the PO2 dropped more as I ascended, it became too low (dumb, I know, but I learned).

7) How was the problem resolved during the dive?
I switched to bailout (again, I was new on the unit, so I felt more comfortable doing that than purging, etc.)

 8) Have you taken any steps to ensure this doesn't happen again?
Yes. I leave the set point alone until I am at the 20 foot stop.

9) Any other information you feel is relevant
Because I was a new Inspiration diver, I was still working out my buoyancy, etc. I had a few dives where I was too positively buoyant on my ascent, so I over-compensated on the start of this ascent by dumping volume and then setting the PO2 to 0.7 so that I could manually add O2. So when I had to swim to ascend, the PO2 dropped too quickly, and I felt the symptoms.
