Hypoxia Events Summary
1) What symptoms did
you experience?
| shortness of breath, laboured breathing |
| |
2) How did you recognise
the event?
| same as above; felt I was working too hard for the
actual activity (I was starting to ascend from a shipwreck with a small
artefact in my hand) |
| |
3) What depth were you at,
been to and were you diving/ surfacing etc?
| max depth of the dive was 112 ft in fresh water with temp
about 38 degrees F. I was at approx. 90-100 ft when I started to feel the
symptoms |
| |
4) How long had you been
submerged?
5) How much time did the
scrubber have on it before the event?
| just that dive (so ~45 min) |
| |
6) What do you think caused the
incident?
| I was a new Inspiration diver at the time (it was my 5th
Inspiration dive), and I switched my set point back to 0.7 before I
ascended. then when the PO2 dropped more as I ascended, it became too low
(dumb, I know, but I learned). |
| |
7) How was the problem resolved during
the dive?
| I switched to bailout (again, I was new on the unit, so
I felt more comfortable doing that than purging, etc.) |
| |
8)
Have you taken any steps to ensure this doesn't happen again?
| Yes. I leave the set point alone until I am at the 20
foot stop. |
| |
9) Any other information you feel is
relevant
| Because I was a new Inspiration diver, I was still
working out my buoyancy, etc. I had a few dives where I was too positively
buoyant on my ascent, so I over-compensated on the start of this ascent by
dumping volume and then setting the PO2 to 0.7 so that I could manually add
O2. So when I had to swim to ascend, the PO2 dropped too quickly, and I felt
the symptoms. |
