Based on the routine taught by Dave Thompson IANTD Instructor and
designer of the Inspiration
Failure to follow this or a similar pre dive check list WILL shorten your
life
Analyse Gasses
Analyse the O2 and diluent cylinder to verify their contents
Scrubber Duration
Verify scrubber log to ensure there is sufficient duration
and reserve for your dive
Positive Pressure Test
Screw counter lung pressure release valve to maximum
Inflate counter lungs to full. Pressure release valve should
operate. Close mouthpiece
Leave inflated for as long as possible. Minimum of 5 minutes
Test is failed if there is any noticeable deflation
Negative Pressure Test
Screw counter lung pressure release valve to minimum
Suck air from counter lungs until they are empty. Crush a
breathing hose. Close mouthpiece
Leave deflated for as long as possible. Minimum of 5 minutes
Test is failed if there is any noticeable inflation or hose
has recovered shape
O2 pressure test
SLOWLY open oxygen cylinder
Listen for pressure up and verify no obvious leakage
Verify sufficient O2 pressure in cylinder
Verify operation of O2 injector
Diluent pressure test
SLOWLY open diluent cylinder
Listen for pressure up and verify no obvious leakage
Verify sufficient diluent pressure in cylinder
Verify operation of diluent injector
Verify operation of buoyancy injector
Verify operation of bail out regulator
Computer initialisation
Switch on master unit
Listen for double beep and solenoid
operation
Switch on slave unit
Listen for double beep and solenoid
operation
Verify No battery warnings
Calibration of Inspiration
Perform a calibration at least once a day. If in doubt
Calibrate
If calibrating, actually check/do each of the pre-calibration
steps
If calibrating, observe all readings as they change. Look for
Long duration of test
Similar last figures on all cells.
Make a note of these for comparison
This is also
a good time to calibrate any third party O2 monitors such as the VR3
Low O2 warning test
Flush system with diluent and verify low O2 warning
actuation.
Verify ALL cells react equally
Pre-Breathe
Breathe from unit for at least 3 minutes continuously prior
to entering the water
Verify unit sets and maintains a 0.7 ppO2 reading
Ensure both counter lungs are fully fastened down
