Interior Modifications

Of course I couldn't leave the inside alone, although on the Mondeo its not bad. Everything is comfortable and in the right place.

First thing to go was the ford Stereo, although it was good it had no CD and the speakers were just OK. I have a 45W per channel Pioneer CD player fitted. driving Kenwood 6"x9" dual cone fronts and Pioneer 8" rears. A fat , full bodied sound with very little noise and even when wound up, little sound leakage to the outside. I HATE boy racers who's stereos are more powerful than their engine. Mind you its an advantage being deaf when you listen to the crap they play!!!

Secondly you can see I have a lot of extra instrumentation. Having spent several months wages on the engine I want to know what's going on with it. Oil Pressure, Oil Temperature and Voltage.

Below that is an ioniser to keep things calm on the car and next to that an OMEX programmable rev limiter/gear change light. As the engine is balanced I have moved the rev limit to 8000rpm which I was hitting too easily. The Ford cut of is a hard one, all four cylinders stop firing. This is a soft cut, the light is set 500 rpm below and at 7500rpm one cylinder is cut (randomly) until at 8000 rpm all cylinders are cut, so you feel the cut, but don't loose everything and can change up.

The gear knob was very worn and the plastic broken so a Momo knob was fitted. Unfortunately the Mondeo is a lift up type stick so choice is limited. Hint to anyone else looking to do this is get a leather one as the raw aluminium is bloody freezing on cold winter mornings

I also have a hands free unit for my phone (Voice activated) and a portable GPS and moving map display navigation system (Garmin GPS III+ and Psion Revo with Street planner software). A Morpheous Geodesy  and   a Traffic Master also sit on the dash

The seats in the Mondy are very comfortable and I have often driven for 5 hours straight without a break, they also have the seatbelt fitting attached directly to them. But they have little side support and I wanted to be held more firmly in the seat. So I fitted a detachable 4 point harness. This works well and holds me very tightly in the seat, but does not interfere with the old belt and is completely re-movable if I have passengers in the back (<1min). Both belts are fully legal

Then I fitted a fire extinguisher into the saloon cabin, just in case. I have another in the boot

I have also fitted aluminium side sill covers with "Mondeo" etched on them for a bit of style, and Momo fitted mats with Aluminium bars to match the side sills and to cover the carpet which has seen far too many muddy feet over the years

I've also fitted some Richbrook aluminium window winder handles for the rear windows as I'd broken the old plastic handles. An now Sparco silver peddles are fitted instead of the very worn Ford rubber. much better feel and I can toe n heel properly now

Oh, And I have the parcel shelf as the Mole area. Currently 7 plastic/soft moles reside there. If anyone knows where I can get other Mole stuff please let me know.
