When I was trying to get new wheels and tyres for the Mondeo I could not get decent answers on what would or wouldn't fit short of spend the £800 and test it. Not good enough.

Currently Tyre Sizes that fit seem to be
0mm Lower to 40mm Lower
215/45-17 (with about 5mm to spare)
40mm - 80mm Lower
205/50-16 or 205/55-16 (with about 5mm to spare)
Basically the rule seems to be if the top of your rear tyre is visible in the arch, go for 215, if the tyre top is covered go for 205. This is a summary of all the tyre surveys so far received, but of course your car could be the one exception
