We've all been there. You do something to the engine and take her for a drive. Wow the difference, or is it. How can you say quantitatively what the mod has done rather than use the Butt Dyno, or pay a lot of dosh for a rolling road session.
Step up an Accelerometer. These measure the minute accelerations of the
car and allow you to time speed, acceleration, horsepower etc very accurately.
There are several on the market, but I settled on the AP-22 meter from
Race-Technology in the UK
Take a look at
www.race-technology.com for more
details
Very easy to use, easy to set up. Good support. More features than the G-tech. Bonus is the AP-22 version has complete PC download for analysis.
Definitely recommended if your going to do a lot of mods. I will be doing a fuller write up as I configure mine and find all the CdA and weights needed and then I will be publishing graphs. Here is a plot of my first ever really timed 0-60 run. Crap pull away, I had to slip the clutch like mad to stop the engine bogging (I need to dump the clutch at higher revs), it was also on a 40mph road so I hesitated at the end as there was a bend. But will give you an idea as to what is available
Start Speed 0.0mph
| mph | s | g | ft | hp |
| 10.0 | 1.57 | 0.46 | 8 | 37 |
| 20.0 | 2.78 | 0.31 | 36 | 51 |
| 30.0 | 4.03 | 0.37 | 82 | 94 |
| 40.0 | 5.74 | 0.25 | 172 | 89 |
| 50.0 | 7.38 | 0.26 | 280 | 114 |
| 60.0 | 9.77 | 0.22 | 474 | 122 |
| Pk Power: | 57.7mph | 9.23s | 427ft | 157hp |
| Peak G: | 12.8mph | 1.84s | 13ft | 0.47g |

I need to do a lot of playing as the sample interval on this graph is 10 mph and I want the max sample of 0.01 seconds
I can also do real time logging to my laptop, which I will do ASAP
