Gunson's Fault Code Reader for EEC IV

For non Duratec pre 97 Mondeo's

A brilliant little device, found at Halfords for around £35, normally next door to the Haynes manuals. Simple to use (if you can count) it does take a little practise to master.

The FCR covers all FORDS with an EEC IV controller and there are a lot of differences in the way each vehicles version work, so make sure you are reading the right bit  of the instructions. This controller is not a true FCR reader but rather uses the fact that you can get the computer to give out "Flash Codes". In this case it flashes a red LED each time and you have to count the flashes and gaps. You could actually make this reader yourself. But this makes it a lot easier.

The code reader plugs into the socket beside the power steering fluid container. It is just long enough to stretch back into the car wher you can sit in the drivers seat and do the tests in comfort and out of the rain.

The Mondeo is a 3 digit code system and all varieties use the same procedure. I do not know if this device works on later Mk II Mondeo's

It takes a good 3 or 4 goes to get the hang of it, but it is easy to master. I was at first worried as I kept getting EGR valve errors, but I have since found out that this is normal.

It is difficult to try and count and write at the same time, and the spaces are not as distinct as I'd like, but you cant have every thing

This device works well when mastered. Is a valuable diagnostic aid so go a get one
