Omex Speed Controller and Shift Light

Once the Powerflow exhaust went on I found that the engine was revving up so fast that I was often hitting the rev limiter at 7300, which is not so good when your trying to overtake in a small gap. So I decided I wanted some warning of the imminent cut out and maybe to do something about it.,

So off to Croydon Race and Rally who suggested the Omex Speed system. Its a Shift light and a soft rev limiter in one unit.

It was very easy to fit and I have the control unit in the centre facia below the stereo. The very big and bright shift light is in the centre fascia to the left off the instrument pod. It is very visible even in bright sunlight.

If you are getting one then remember that you need a twin coil adapter and to set the unit as 2 cylinders

The device is very easy to set and after I had disabled the Ford rev limiter (Pull the relevant wire on the EEC V unit). I have set the soft limiter at 8000 and the change light at 6000 (just over peak power and well before cut off)

The device works very well and is great

A caveat: I have had some problems withy my unit picking up stray emissions from the coil and hence thinking the revs are at twice the level they are and hence cutting out at 4000 rpm. I have minimised this by separating and foil wrap insulating the two yellow coil sensor wire but it still very occasionally does it which is very annoying. I think it is a problem with my coil rather than the Omex

My Omex sat just to the left of the ciggy lighter. The white above is the instruction sheet which is very clear. The strange box to the left is an ioniser
