This family line begins with John Cobley who married in Bristol in 1809. Because of the location of the city they can be classified as being in Gloucestershire,or at times Somerset! An interesting tree with branches as far afield as New Zealand, where one member made his fortune gold mining!

Job Cobley (b. Thurnby, Leicestershire, England. 1743)
a Leicestershire Cobley who, like the other cobleys of the county had a large family. His ancestors have been traced back to the 1600's, and a will from the 1500s is also to be seen (not yet included on the website). A family not without it's interesting history. Work still in progress...

here we pick up a line that reaches back into the 1600's. coming forward we find a number of Leicester familes are related. One menber turns up as a Grammar School teacher in victorian Oswestry, Shropshire. A pleasure to trace.

Thomas Cobley, (b. Pensford, Somerset, 1803)
Died 27 Oct 1891 in Maesycwmmer, Monmouthshire)
Thomas was the son of the above named Joseph and Sarah, he was baptised in St Thomas church Pensford on 12 June 1803. In the mid 1820’s Thomas moved to Maesycwmmer, Monmouthshire where he worked as a coal miner. He married Sarah ? and they had 10 children including 4 boys named Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
This was the start of the Cobley line in S Wales.
