Mike Hodges 'Pocket Essentials Film' book series
The book written by Mark Adams focuses on the films that Mike Hodges has directed through his career from, of course, Get Carter to the not so well know Michael Caine collaberation 'Pulp' in 1972 and other hi-lights such as 'Flash Gordon'. The book also reviews the more recent work, such as the back to form film 'Croupier,' starring Clive Owen, which was a slow burner in America, receiving critical acclaim with many suggesting he'd almost scaled his success of Get Carter.
The book has much in-depth detail on all his films and the chapter on Get Carter arguably puts my review of the film to shame with information on the cast, crew and background details of how the film was made. There are many interesting quotes from Mike and Michael caine. A Clever analytical style makes this an interesting read for any fan of the cinema and espeically those into British ganster films.
