The history of our bells
Originally cast in 1883 by Llewellins & James, Bristol using the latest techniques of that time to achieve a better tonal quality, they were a fully matched set of 8 bells all bearing their own inscribed name. The frame was of solid oak construction seated directley on the bell chamber floor which was inturn supported by two oak beams spanning the width of the tower. The bells were finally installed in the church tower and a service of dedication was held on Thursday 13th December 1883 at 2:30 pm. The total cost of the work was £708.

In 1994 the church learnt that extensive work was required on the both the bell frame and tower at an estimated cost of over £77,000. This work involved removing the bells and oak frame. Manufacturing and installing a new cast steel frame, re tuning the bells and finally re hanging the bells all with new fittings. By 1997 the National Heritage Memorial fund had offered £47,000, the Yorkshire Association of change ringers had provided a substancial grant and the remaining money coming from fund raising events and pledges by church members.
The bells were taken for restoration on Thursday 13th February 1997.
