The Bells

Official Sources in the 16th Century show that on examination on 23rd July 1550 "Aston Clynton" had:

iiij bells hangynge in the steple, - and for one of them is owynge amonge the pishners the Some of xxj Li.
One Bele called the Sanctus Bele.
One other litle Bele.
Cost of carriage from London - 6/8".

In 1714 there were 5 bells -

In 1806 when John George was Rector and John Baston (who was landlord of the Bell Inn and whose grave is outside the Sanctuary door) and Richard Slaughter (who was a farmer) were Church Wardens and whose staves now hang beside the Vestry Screen, the bells were re-cast and re-hung.

At this time there were 6 peal bells all inscribed "Mears & Son of London - Fecit - 1806".

In 1975 - 2 further bells were added in 1984 the Bell Frame strengthened.
