The Internet now provided invaluable sources of information, accessible from your home. As more and more records are computerised, it will only get better.
Below are links to resouces that I have used with success. All have helped enormously and I would encourage you to use them.

    As with the Devon FHS, join the Society and receive the Quarterly Journal; Visit the centre in Truro; Get in touch with fellow researchers.

    Invaluable, fully searchable database; Find who you are looking for in Cornwall in 1871.

  • Cornwall On-Line
    The Cornish Magazine; includes historical and genealogical information. Also a valuable source for anybody intending to visit Cornwall.

    Fully searchable. More comprehensive than versions available in libraries, plus Ancestral Files
  • Genuki
    Enter this large collection of genealogical information pages for England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man. It will answer many questions and provides many links. Go to your county for full information.
  • Mailing Lists
    Join others by receiving emails relevant to your area of research, be it by County or Subject- even specific to one Parish. A whole list to select from.
  • Genforum
    Surname Specific Forums - Communicate with others researching your surname.
  • The Commonwealth War Graves Commision
    Fully searchable - Are you looking for someone who may have lost their life in a war? Do you know where their memorial is? Look here!
  • MAPS
    Do you know the area you are looking at? Get a map here! These are modern maps but will probably help you. Further more, plot one place relative to another by entering 2 places and plotting a route between the two. Also, see the postcode locator below, which will help.
  • UK Postcodes
    Use this resouce to find the Postcode of a particular address; This will help when searching for a map.

An emigrant Barque that sank of Cornwall in 1855. 194 passengers lost their lives. This site contains a full passenger and crew list, reports of all subsequent proceedings and a transcript of the trial of the Captain.
