Big Bill
Morganfield
|
|
| Having a
father (Muddy Waters) who was just a bit of a Blues legend might suggest
that Big Bill Morganfield has got it made, but he knows he has to try
harder than ever to show that he's inherited more than just his genes.
In fact Big Bill is quite a
perfectionist. A few years after his father died he locked himself
away, wrote songs, and practised his technique, use his fathers old amp
and guitars, while at the same time continuing his career as a
teacher. When he felt he was totally in tune with the music be
ventured out and found to his great delight that he could really let
loose and enjoy himself.
He returned to the city
where his father had cut so many classic songs, Chicago, and recorded
his debut album in 1999 - an album that MOJO magazine selected as its Blues
Album of the month for August '99. This recording has also helped
Big Bill' top the Living Blues poll, and opened up avenues for him to
tour in the UK and Europe in the past 2 years.
Meanwhile Big Bill's album
'Rising Son' on the Blind Pig label (distributed in the UK by Direct
Distribution) continues to earn plaudits as does his 2nd album 'Ramblin'
Mind', and Big Bill picked up the
coveted WC Handy Award for Best New Blues Artist in May 2000.
