WORLD ARTISTS:

Taiko to Tabla (UK/Japan): Highly respected percussionists Joji Hirota & Pete Lockett and 40+ pieces of percussion; whistles, subtle electronics, and real live sampling.  A polyrhythmic carnival which has thrilled audiences all over the world.!

Nuzha (Israel/Palestine/Algeria): Adel Salameh plays the Oud, Asaf Sirkis playes the Bandhir, and Naziha has the most wonderful of voices.  This combination of Palestinian, Israeli and Algerian musicians not only crosses cultural borders but revels in the influences of their individual cultures.  June 5: Chichester Festival Theatre

Luar Na Lubre (Spain): From Galicia in Spain this 8-piece band produce an exhilarating sound steeped in the great Celtic folk tradition of the region but forward thinking in everything from the CD packaging through to the stage show and overall presence.

July 17: Stornoway, Celtic Hebridean Festival; 18: Chichester, Chichester Festivities in Chichester Cathedral; 19: Dolgellau, Sesiwn Fawr Festival.

 

The Transsylvanians (Germany/Hungary/Russia):  

Berlin-based band of German, Hungarian, and Russian musicians playing traditionally-based music with a refreshing kick - great for festivals.  Now booking for April-May 2004  www.transsylvanians.de

 

Vera Bila & Kale (Czech Republic): The World's most popular Romany singer, in May 2000 she sold out London's Barbican Main Hall.  From her base in the Bohemian village of Rockycany this charismatic performer travels the world performing what can best be described as a homespun mélange of accidental pop and Latin sensuality.  Her new album includes a guest appearance by Chico of the Gypsy Kings.  

The Bisserov Sisters (Bulgaria): From the Bulgarian village of Pirin, the three sisters are no strangers to the UK having toured extensively with Trio Traki.  Toured the UK in July 2002 inc WOMAD, Sesiwn Fawr, Frome Festival, Forest of Dean, Prema Arts Centre (Uley), and will be back for more concerts and workshops in May-June top celebrate their 25th anniversary, accompanied by their 3 daughters.

Shichiseikai (Japan): The unexpected success of 2000 was when we toured these 9 Japanese Shomyu Buddhist Monks.  There were full-houses everywhere as Buddhists, Spiritualists, and the plain curious, turned out to witness and enjoy sutra chanting resonating in beautiful unison to create a truly mystical experience.  Touring November 2003.  21: Haverhill Arts Centre.
