Summary: |
One of the more laid back spots in the area but also good quality waves. |
Location: |
About 4 miles north of Newquay.
Just follow the coast road going north out of Newquay. After passing through Porth, the Bay is the next major beach after the St Mawgan airfield. |
Name of Break: |
Watergate Bay. |
Direction Of Break: |
W.
Best wind direction is SE round to NE which is offshore. If the SE or NE winds are strong there will tend to be some chop generated with this more evident if there is a lot of S or N in the wind. |
Comments: |
This is a good quality break with plenty of peaks spread along the beach. The best tide states are rising tide from about 2 hours after low up to high tide. At the lower tide state there will be peaks spread all along the beach with the exact location of the best spots varying from year to year. At high tide the best peaks tend to be off the rocks to the north. In conclusion my preferred break in the area with less crowd hassle than Fistral but without any reduction in the surf quality. |
