WALES

As I have not surfed in South Wales for a number of years and never surfed in North Wales I have decided to link this part of my guide to guides written by surfers more acquainted with the spots in these areas.

I have added some personal comments on these guides. If you have a guide you want me to link to then please email me (markrsmith@btinternet.com) with the details.

South Wales

This guide to beaches in South Wales has been written by Neil Roberts and covers the major breaks in the Gower, South Wales coast and Pembrokeshire. It provides a useful summary of the breaks and the conditions that make them work at their best.

Although it is some years since I surfed in South Wales I would recommend Llangennith on the Gower for an easy wave with out too much aggro from the locals. In general I would keep clear of Langland Bay as it gets too crowded and intense (like Fistral in Newquay).

A much more mellow scene exists in Pembrokeshire with Freshwater West being the best of the most accessible breaks.

If you are interested in surfing in the Aberystwyth area, there is a useful guide on Alan Cole's Forces of Nature web site.

North Wales

This guide written by Ben G provides an excellent guide to the major surf beaches in North Wales. Summary directions are given on how to get to the breaks and when they work at their best. There is also a photo gallery for Hells Mouth, which is one of the better beaches in the area.

As an added bonus there are also photos but no guides to a number of secret spots in the area.
