From The Rector

Dear friends,

As we approach the Summer holidays, here’s just a daft little exercise for you to try:

How smart is your right foot?

Next time you get bored at your desk (or anywhere else for that matter), just try this. It was discovered by an orthopaedic surgeon, and will prove that your right foot isn't as smart as you thought it was.

1. While sitting, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles.

2. Now, while doing this, draw the number '6' in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction.

Told you so! There seems to be nothing you can do about it. It's silly, trivial... but chances are, you'll attempt it again in a minute or two!

As I said a daft exercise! It’s good sometimes to take time out, to stop and to put things into perspective. The Summer can be a really good time for doing that. Here are Seven R’s that you might like to try this Summer:

Rest

God created the world in six days, the seventh was for rest. Do you have a day away from work each week? Have you got a holiday booked for the Summer? If not how about having a holiday at home. Take time to just sit and read a book, or go for a walk along the beautiful footpaths which we have in our parish, or ….

Recovery

We all need to take that time out to recover from the stress and strain of ordinary life.

Refreshment

Jesus tells us to “Drink from the living water” (John 4). When you are rested and recovered from the stresses of life, it can be a good time to stop and pray. Allow God to refresh your soul.

Reflection

Taking time out allows us to reflect on our life.

Repentance

We may need to make changes to our life as a result of our reflection.

Renewal

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength

They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary…” (Is 40:31)

Re-creation

Recreation allows for Re-Creation. Take time this Summer to grow in the Lord.

Here’s hoping you all have a good Summer. Don’t forget 'St Bears Day' on 24th August. A fun event which we can share together.

God Bless

Rev’d Jane Turner
