St Bartholomew's and St Chad's Giving Initiative

Update - GOOD NEWS!

Lots of you responded both financially and with offers of 'time and talents'.

Finance

During August we saw an increase of £78 per week in our offertory giving. This will make a real difference to the ministry of our parish. Thank You.

This increase does not include all of the standing order pledges as they have not yet been activated. Also some people have not yet started using their envelopes following making their pledge. Our best guess is that once all of these are activated and Gift Aid is added we will have an increase in excess of £8,000 per year. Also, due to the holiday period, we are still receiving new pledge cards. If you haven't yet sent yours, please don't feel it is too late - it isn't!

Time and Talents

Over the coming months there will be many new things happening in our parish as a result of people committing themselves to give of their time and talents eg. a Gardening Team at St Bartholomew's and a new Bible Study Group. See below for further information.

St Bartholomew's Gardening Team

Two teams of people have agreed to meet once a month to do the gardening at St Bartholomew's.

They will meet:

  • on the first Thursday of each month from 10.00-11.00am beginning on September 3rd.
  • on the first Saturday of each month from 10.00-11.00am beginning on September 5th.

If you would like to join either team please either just turn up (with your tools and bin bags!) or contact Sally Lang (via the parish office - 648 8169)

St Chad's Family Service Planning Group

The role of this group is threefold:

  • to help with the ideas and building the structure of the service in the planning meeting;
  • to help to prepare any visual aids etc;
  • to be available on the day to help set up the service and possibly to be involved in leading small parts of it.

The work would not be entirely down to this group, we can involve Sunday School and Uniformed organisations in various ways.

Our first meeting will be on Thursday 10th September at 7.30pm at the Rectory to begin to plan the Harvest Festival Service.

Please let Revd Jane know if you would like to join this group.

Marriage Preparation Day - More Volunteers Needed

We currently share our marriage preparation day with Christ Church Barnston and all the refreshments are run by their church members. The day is usually a Saturday in February. However due to increasing numbers of wedding couples, the venue is now pushed to it's absolute limits, and ideally we need to run two separate days for 2010. We therefore would need a team:

  • To welcome marriage couples and share in general conversation with them (Revd Jane will do the teaching sessions)
  • To set up St Chad's in preparation (from about 9am) - tables, chairs etc.
  • Someone to help set up technology - powerpoint with video clips etc.
  • A Catering Team (we potentially have about 14 couples plus the team, so probably catering for around 35-40 people).
  • Tea and Coffee on arrival (10.00am) with heart shaped biscuits etc
    Lunch (12.30pm) - Home made Soup, bread rolls followed by Cheese and Biscuits or fresh fruit.
  • Afternoon Tea before people depart (3.30pm) with home made cakes.
  • A serving team to support the catering team.
  • A Clearing Up Team.

It would involve most members of the team being at St Chad's from 9am until 4pm on the day. The Rector would propose to use the extension for the teaching sessions in order to leave the kitchen and main hall free for serving food and changing furniture around for the different parts of the day.

IF YOU CAN HELP PLEASE LET REV'D JANE KNOW ASAP!

Thank you to everyone who offered their time and talents. You will notice new people acting as sidespersons, reading lessons, helping in Sunday School, working in the background, cleaning our buildings and arranging flowers etc.
