The OPEN DOOR Building Project

The primary aim of the project is to provide adequate facilities in the Church for use of the congregation on Sundays, family occasions (baptisms, weddings and funerals), during community events (School Services, “St ‘Bear’tholomew’s Family Fun Day”) etc. We plan to provide additional accommodation to include:

  • A simple kitchen and refreshment area to provide drinks and snacks;

  • Toilet facilities, including provision for the disabled and;

  • Access for disabled people.

Preliminary planning and timetable

It is the intention to commence the building project as soon as there are sufficient funds available. A good start has already been made on the fund-raising, architect's plans have been drawn up and planning permission has been obtained from the Local Authority.

How quickly we can complete the project will largely depend upon the success in raising the necessary funds. Given the reasonably moderate ambition of the project (and generosity of the local community) we would hope to complete the project within two years.

Estimated Costs and Funding

On current day estimates the cost of the project stands at approximately £100,000. A start has already been made and sufficient funds have been raised to initiate the preliminary planning procedures. Further fund-raising activities are in the pipe-line. However, for a substantial part of the financing, we will be looking for the generosity and support from members of the local community, as well as making applications to selected charitable trusts and companies.

How You Can Help

There are many ways in which we can all help to raise the necessary funds to realise the plans outlined in this appeal. All contributions no matter the value are equally important. Although we will be making application to selected Trusts and Companies, we in the local community must show willing in our support for St. Bartholomew's Church.

Examples of ways in which you can help:

•   Regular monthly donations

•   Donations to commemorate a special family event, such as a marriage or a baptism - or in memory of loved ones

•   Birthday or anniversary donations in lieu of gifts

•   Legacies

•   Organised fund-raising events (e.g. the 2005 London Marathon challenge taken up by Andrew Horner in memory of his parents; the 2006 Church Flower Festival).
