From the Rector

Thank you so much for the warm welcome!

Thank you to all who have sent cards and offers of help. Thank you to all who helped to prepare for the induction service. Thank you to all who helped to provide the fantastic spread after the induction service. Thank you for the beautiful bouquet of flowers and the friendliness and warmth of the welcome (which was felt by many of my family, friends and previous congregation).

Here is a bit of information about me:

I was born in Birkenhead and attended Birkenhead High School GPDST before going to Leeds University to study Fuel and Energy Engineering. I then worked as a computer programmer at Park Food Group PLC. In 1996 I went to Trinity Theological College in Bristol to train for ministry. I served my curacy in the Eccles Team ministry in the diocese of Manchester. From April 2000 – April 2008 I was half time priest-in-charge of St Bartholomew’s Great Barrow (just outside of Chester) and half time Chester Diocesan Ecumenical Officer.

I came to faith through a combination of Girl Guides and a St James’ Church (Birkenhead) Youth Group. Aged 15, I acquired my Queen’s Guide certificate which begins with the words 'As a Queen’s Guide, you have prepared yourself for service to God…..' This led to me seeking what that might mean and becoming a Christian. Girl Guiding is therefore still a very important part of my life and I look forward to working with the uniformed organisations in Irby.

I have an elderly black Labrador called Gemma, and we look forward to discovering new walks around the parish. The other piece of information which most people discover about me very quickly, is that I do not drink tea or coffee, so please do not be offended if I ask for a glass of water!

As many of you will know, the Rectory was not ready for me to move into before the induction, so I will need to spend the first few days of May unpacking and getting settled in the new house. Courtesy of BT, with whom I have been having battling for six weeks, I don’t yet have a phone number, but am promised that by the end of April, I will have the old Rectory number but I’m not holding my breath!

I look forward to sharing with you in ministry, and getting to know you over the coming weeks, months and years.

God Bless, Jane
