The Federation was founded in 1968. To mark the 40th anniversary of the Federation we have produced a 2008 calendar, featuring illustrations from books by many of our favourite authors and illustrators of the past 40 years. The Federation of Children's Book Groups was the brainchild of Anne Wood, originator of "The Teletubbies", almost 40 years ago. The Federation's main role is to act as the umbrella organisation for local autonomous Children's Book Groups all around the UK. The Book Groups organise a variety of activities in their localities, often in conjunction with their local schools and libraries. These may include, bringing authors and illustrators to schools, story-telling sessions, and other book-related activities for children. The Federation produces a regular Newsletter and numerous specialised booklists. Also, it organises National Share-A-Story Month each year in May, holds an Annual Conference in the Spring, and, owns and coordinates The Red House Children's Book Award.
