Prior to 1903, the bells formed a heavy ring of six. According to the inscription on the 7th bell, the three new bells were cast for Whites of Appleton who hung the eight bells in a new metal frame.
In 1927 however, the bells were the subject of a major restoration when they were quarter-turned, lowered in the tower and rehung on ball bearings in a new cast iron frame standing on a steel grillage. This work was carried out by John Taylor & Co.
The 6th bell is listed by the Council for the Care of Churches as one worthy of preservation. It bears a mark referred to as the "brede mark". This indicates that it was cast by a London founder around 1460. The founder is believed to have been John Danyell, but this has never been confirmed.
