Work carried out on the Bells

Some of the maintenance work has been carried out on the bells:
  • The bearings on all the bells have been cleaned, and new bearings installed on the fifth and the tenor.
  • All the clappers have been rebushed.

The following work is still to be done:
  • Installation of new pulleys, where required
  • Removal of rust and painting the frame

We are grateful to those people, especially Peter Topps and Bill Dyer, who provided the local assistance with the work already carried out, thus reducing the cost.

The "go" of the bells, whilst somewhat better, has not hugely improved, although this seems to be variable.
Sometimes they go well, sometimes not quite so well. This could well depend on the weather (the weather conditions greatly affect the length of the ropes)

The clappers on the third and seventh no longer seize up the way they used to in very hot weather.

Recent articles and discussions lead us to believe that the state of the pulleys has a great effecton the go of the bells, so we look forward to their replacement.
