On 6 Dec 1698 when Joseph was 35, he first married Elizabeth AXTELL, daughter of Robert AXTELL. Born in 1663. Elizabeth died in 1725, she was 62.
They had the following children:

In 1717 when Rebecca was 18, she married George SMITH, son of Thomas SMITH.
