Materials Science (NW) Ltd is based in the UK and has built up a World-wide reputation over nearly 30 years for the manufacture of high quality, competitively priced, laboratory equipment for the sectioning and preparation of specimens in metallurgical, Materials Science and (more recently) Medical, Dental and Forensic laboratories.
The metallurgical/materials Science laboratory equipment is centered on the Spark Erosion Machine and the Metalthin. The Spark Erosion Machine is designed to cut metals and ceramic materials with negligible distortion. There are a number of associated accessories, including a wirecutter and an extensive range of clamps for securing specimens during cutting.
The Metalthin employs a twin-jet electropolishing process, and is designed for the production of high quality thin-foils for subsequent use in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). It was originally developed for producing high quality thin foils from radioactive materials. Again, a number of relevant accessories are available.
The recently formed Medical Division produces the Bone Saw and Tooth Saw for use in Medical, forensic and Dental laboratories for the accurate sectioning of bones,teeth and tissue.
