About the town of Widnes
Widnes is a town in the North West of England which has approximately 60,000 inhabitants. If you look at the map to the right you can see exactly where the town is situated within the United Kingdom.

When I go abroad on holiday and people ask where I live, upon my reply I can almost guarantee that the person's next question will be 'Where?'

This should not be the case at all as Widnes is renowned for its Rugby League team as well as being a very successful industrial town, producing mainly chemicals.

The first people to settle in Widnes where infact the Vikings. The town name of Widnes is here today because the first settlers named it after the part of the river Mersey that Widnes is located on, this part of the river is wide and so they called the town something along the lines of 'Wid Ness' or otherwise translated, 'wide nose'.
