In 1958 the Commonwealth Railways of Australia and the Electricity Trust of Southern Australia (ETSA) took delivery of a total of seven shunting locomotives, built by Clyde Engineering of Granville, NSW. These three axle rigid frame locomotves were fitted with a Maybach MD325 turbocharged straight-6 engine rated at 545hp for traction [620hp gross], driving into a Mekydro K104U transmission. The six that CR had were largely sidelined by 1971. The sole CR survivor was loaned to ETSA for a period and is now preserved.

Originally this link had no photograph. It now has a picture of the surviving member of the class (MDH1) in it's ETSA guise, when it was numbered as ETSA No.2.

On the Australian National Railway Museum website, there is a picture and some history of ETSA No.1, which is also preserved and in very good condition too.
