Like The Denver & Rio Grande Western and Southern Pacific Railroads in the US, the Brazilian EFVM organisation ordered 16 metre gauge ML4000 locomotives for their Vitoria a Minas Railway. These were otherwise almost identical to the second US batch, with road switcher bodies. All were fitted with two MD870 engines set to 2000hp and two Voith L830rU transmissions. Maximum speed was 48mph/78kmh. Four were delivered in 1966 and the remaining twelve in 1969. According to a posting on Railroad.net some of these locos were still operational in 2000, however a subsequent discovery on the "Boys from Brazil" page of the Pacific Locomotive Associations SP9010 website has tended me to believe that the Brazilian ML4000s had all stopped working by 1985/86, with two being rebuilt, quite likely with new MTU engines possibly from the "396" series as fitted to the Spanish ML4000 "Talgo" locomotives [class 354] that were built for RENFE in 1982/3. As the SP9010 website says the two rebuilds lasted only two years, it is safe to assume that none were running by 1990. All have been scrapped.
There is a very good site with a lot of photos and drawings of these loco's on it:
