V200 006/220 006

V200 006 was built by MAK and entered service in 1956. It was renumbered 220 006 in 1968 and was withdrawn from DB service on 11th November 1978, having been stopped since 4th June 1978.

It was on of several V200's sold to a German construction organisation called "Heitkamp" for use as an engineering locomotive on a construction project in Saudi Arabia, where it was numbered "Heitkamp 6". In fact it remained in Germany to provide spares for the locomotives that did go to Saudi Arabia, particularly engines. According to the Matthias Maier book "De Baureihe V200" when bought by Heitkamp the locomotive was fitted with Maybach engines and Voith transmissions.

In January 1982 it was sold to an Italian private railway, Ferrovie Suzzara Ferrara in and renumbered back to 220 006 as well as being painted in a style similar to the DB blue/beige scheme. The locomotive was overhauled at AW Nürnburg and arrived in Italy in July 1982 and was based at Sermide. Sadly in 1999 the locomotive was re-engined with Isotta Fraschini engines and painted in a dreary green and red colour scheme. This locomotive is now numbered "220R01".
