The LIVERPOOL
MILLENNIUM
MAY
HORSE PARADE
MayDay Holiday
Monday 1st May 2000
Liverpool Celebrates the First Day of the First Summer of the New Millennium with its glorious May Horse Parade, the most ancient celebratory tradition of this historic seaport.
The Parade, consisting of a mile-long Procession of heavy and carriage horses, features Liverpool's own tradition of lavish Garland decorations, transforming an already spectacular gathering of fine horses and horse-drawn heritage vehicles into a glorious celebration of the First Day of Summer.
The Parade gathers on May Morning at lovely Sefton Park for the May Decoration Judged Classes, then Processes through the streets of Georgian Liverpool, lined by thousands of enthusiastic spectators, for the Garland Ceremony and Prizegiving in front of St Georges Hall.
