J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy epic The Lord of the Rings is among the best
selling books ever, and is quite probably my favourite read.
There are a huge number of LoTR resources out there on the web (and with
the recent movie adaptation, these are becoming even more numerous). Below
are a few of my favourites. If you want to find out more about Tolkien's
works, these are a pretty good place to start.
- Encyclopaedia
of Arda A comprehensive encyclopaedia of Tolkien's mythical world.
- Ardalambion
A guide to the numerous languages created by Tolkien for the peoples
of his mythical world (or rather the languages that he created the mythical
world as a home for). It was Tolkien's linguistic essays which sparked
my own interest in language and phonetics, a subject which I am now
devoting almost a quarter of my degree coursework to investigating.
- alt.fan.tolkien The foremost Tolkien
discussion forum on the web. Just don't mention Balrog wings (or their
lack of them)! Check out the various Tolkien FAQs
before posting.
