Below is my planned brief for my minor project, which will make
up 12.5% of the marks toward my degree. This brief has yet to be
confirmed.
Tutor: Matt Ottewill
Project Overview:
In this project, I will investigate the possibilities offered by
desktop video editing software for the creation of Hollywood style
special-effects. I will select a scene from a commercial film and
attempt to replicate its special-effects using desktop technology.
The project will comprise research into the techniques used to
create professional special-effects, as well as practical application
of this research throughout the production process; from the planning
stages (storyboarding etc.), through to filming and post-production.
My report will detail the techniques and processes used to create
the effects in the original scene, and the techniques used to replicate
the scene using desktop technology.
Aims:
- To research the techniques and processes used to create professional
special-effects.
- To investigate the capabilities of desktop video technology,
and the increased special-effects capabilities that these technologies
make available to the low-budget film maker.
- To investigate the process of creating a special-effects sequence,
from the planning stage through to post-production.
- To produce a professional, or close to professional quality
special-effects sequence, replicating the effects seen in a commercially
released film.
