Albert was born in Wending before father John and mother Hannah moved down to Rotherhythe and later to Peckham. On the birth certificate Albert’s father who we know as John was also named as Albert. This raises the possibility that John had Albert as a middle or alternative name and that this was used within the family

Albert (jr.) married twice.

His first wife was named Ada Maria who died during the birth of young Ada.

Just over a year later Albert who then described himself a glazier married Elizabeth Mary Jones.

The 1901 Census shows the family to be living at 79 Bowler Street Levenshulme Lancashire.  Elizabeth’s birthplace was stated as Bermondsey.  There is reason to doubt this.

At this time Albert described himself as a carpenter.

The 1881 census shows the Jones family as living in Micklefield Yorkshire at that time Elizabeth was given as being born in Bilston Staffordshire.

The 1901 census shows the same family to be living in Bilston.

The information that came from Mary’s death certificate was given by an an E. Lawrence her grand daughter I have of late had an e-mail from Frances France on behalf of this lady (still alive) who is named Elsie.

It would appear that the name Albert Edward was given in error.  There was ever only one Albert Edward who died as an infant.  It is assumed that Miss Lawrence confused her grandfather’s name with that of a deceased uncle Albert Edward who died before she was born.

Incidentally there would appear to be a transcription error in relation to Ada.  The transcription shows her as having an age of 5 in 1901.  Registration data definitely states  that she was in fact born during the third quarter of 1892. And so a child of the first marriage.

Whatever the case sometime after 1901 the family moved to Liverpool  where Albert died and Ada married.

There is some confusion as to where they actually lived.  I have two addresses both from the death certificate.

There Elizabeth’s address is given as 16 Carno Street Liverpool 15 the same address as Miss Lawrence. However, the place of death is given as 42 Belmont Road.  I am informed by Dave Wall from Sydney  that this address could be “Newsham General Hospital as West Derby Workhouse later became.”
