Max wanted Paula to have some of his toys. Sara and I explained that people made a Will before they died. Later he came downstairs with lots of scraps of paper with 'Will' written at the top. Each described what should be distributed and to whom. I went upstairs and cried.

Max was not in too much pain and generally was very happy. His concept of death was that he would not see us anymore. This was still a huge burden on one so young. I was humbled. Still he managed to carry on with life, still he managed to think about sorting out his affairs and laying his outstanding business to rest.

His symptoms progressed from day to day. His leg continued to swell and he started to get pains in his arm as well. The swelling in his leg was caused by a blood clot as initially suspected by the hospital. The clot was caused by the cancer growing and restricting the flow of blood in his right leg. He was prescribed with Warfarin.

The Warfarin treatment was difficult. There is a finely balanced juggling act to get the correct levels of medication. We went to the hospital nearly every other day to fine tune the doses.

Max also lapsed into incontinence. This slow degradation gave me the impression that secondary cancers were spreading throughout his body.
