simonTHORPE double bass, electric bass:
simon is widely recognised as one of the uk's leading bassists, known equally for his versatility and flexibilty, as for his deep understanding of jazz, soul and funk. he has recorded with artists from across the musical spectrum, including carleen anderson, andy ramsey from stereo lab, bobby wellins and stacey kent - with whom he appears on five albums. live, he has worked in many different situations, including support dates for george benson, and tours across europe and the usa. simon's innovative compositions form the core of the improPHONICS sound, and he has also written music for theatre, big band, and bbc tv.
tanyaROSATO vocals:
tanya's great voice has for years been hidden in the backing singers for many of britain's best-loved soul and r&b acts. her voice, both powerful and sweet, is equally comfortable singing standards, soul classics, or originals. with improPHONICS, her personal, thought provoking lyrics are featured in songs written with simon thorpe.
leighETHERINGTON saxophones:
originally from york, studied at leeds college. since leading her band at ronnie scott's in 1993, leigh has continued to develop her original style, rich sound, and fluid improvisation which, while reflecting the work of her three main influences - john coltrane, wayne shorter and joe henderson, remains very much a statement of her own identity.
 

markRIDOUT guitars:
one of Britain's most exciting and versatile guitarists, has recently been working in hammond organ legend jimmy smith's uk band and toured the us with acid jazzers down to the bone. mark has recorded sessions for bbc radio and tv, and is a guitar demonstrator for roland uk. With wide ranging influences from hendrix to wes montgomery and george benson, his playing has its own distinctively bluesy and funky sound.

mikeGORMAN fender rhodes piano, synthesisers:
mike is one of the most in demand keyboard players in the uk. he can be seen regularly with many of the leading names in british jazz, as well as having performed with americans such as legendary blues singer jimmy witherspoon. he has also toured extensively and recorded with top international acidjazz/hip hop acts us3 and incognito, and is often called upon to work with visiting american soul artists such as n'dambi and gwen mccrae.
sebROCHFORD drums, percussion:
one of the most creative young drummers on the scene, is well-loved for his musicality and dynamic playing He also plays with art-pop band Menlow Park, and leads his own band Polar Bear.
