We were formed to provide a reference point for Burnham-on-sea and Highbridge diabetes sufferers and their families and to liase with health and non health based organisations Additionally, we organise meetings, social events, and outings, and encourage members to work together on a self-help basis.
Governance
The group is run by a committee, which normally consists of one chairman, one vice-chairman, a secretary, a treasurer, and a minimum of two other committee members. Minutes of committee meetings are taken by the secretary or a nominated committee member, stored in a loose-leaf file and signed, if correct, by the group chairman at the next programmed committee meeting
Committee members and group officers are elected at an Annual General or Extra-ordinary General Meeting of the group members.
There are two trustees, who are volunteers, to oversee the running of the group.
Membership lists, which contain name address and phone number only, are kept on an Excel spreadsheet. There is an annually charged membership fee to cover nominal costs, which becomes liable on the 1st April of each year. Presently, the membership fee is £3, but this can be increased at an Annual or Extra-ordinary General meeting.
Finances
We maintain a bank account for storage of group running expenses and donations, and to produce audited accounts available for public inspection on a annual basis. Running expenses are allocated by the committee, but the club endeavours to be “self-financing”. The committee are responsible for allocating or donating funds for diabetes related causes.
