Just a few notes about being in the hills. Skip this if you are anything but a novice walker.
Hillwalking is a great pastime as long as you take a few basic precautions. All of the walks in our website require a little respect.
Boots - wear a good well fitting 3 season boot as a minimum. We both like to wear 2 pairs of socks inside our boots. A thin liner sock and a thick outer walking sock. Bridgedale are a good choice.
Map and Compass. Learn how to use a map and compass and take both with you on any walk.
Whistle and torch - Both useful to attract attention. Both “must carry” items in the hills.
Bivvy bag or survival bag. One of those big orange plastic jobs is ideal. This is also a “must carry” item.
Good waterproofs are essential whatever the season.
Please don’t venture into the hills without this basic list of survival equipment. Also remember to let somebody know where you are going (a route card is useful) and when you expect to return.

Nearly forgot Lesley says take plenty of chocolate with you. This is a bit serious. You do need some emergency rations just in case. Old timers tend to favour Kendal Mint Cake.
