Notes: This is a great classic walk winter or summer. In winter good protection, 4 season boots an ice axe and crampons may be needed. The beacons can bite at any time but particularly in the winter so take care. The carpark can get very icy in the winter also. The first part of the route is a little difficult as the paths tend to be unclear. Have your compass handy. Take care as you strike into open country at grid 035235 as it is easy to miss the rising path. If you do you end up on the Gap road. You can follow this and still climb Cribyn but Bryn Teg is more fun. Actually it’s a steep pull onto the summit for the last 300m. Lesley says it’s a two chocolate bar hill. The bit from Cribyn summit to Corn Du is easy with brilliant views. Pay attention as you pass the Obelisk on the decent to make sure you hook up to the right path. The rest is easy. You can shorten this route by heading south uphill out of the carpark and walk directly up Pen-y-Fan but you won’t be able to say you did the horseshoe!
