Disable
Access at Hotel Vora Nova
Palma Nova
Majorca
May 2008
My wife Betty and I decided that we needed
a week’s relaxation somewhere warm. So we booked a holiday to
Palma Nova in Majorca. I’d never been there before, but the
Hotel Vora Nova stated that it was wheelchair friendly and as
Palma Nova appeared so inviting, we decided to book into the
hotel for a week and check it out “first hand.”
As soon as I entered the Hotel Vora Nova I
had a great feeling that this was going to be a completely
wheelchair friendly hotel.
Wheelchair access was all around the
reception area with a ramp leading to one part of the
accommodation area. As we were shown to our room we passed the
pool area where I noticed it was completely flat and the raised
areas had ramps. There was also a completely wheelchair
friendly bathroom just at the side of the stairs.
Our room, although it smelled damp, was
completely wheelchair friendly with plenty of room for a large
wheelchair. The bathroom sink was a little high for me, but I
managed okay. There was a wheel in shower, but you had to either
supply your own shower chair or hire one. I found the toilet a
little low for me, but the plastic raised seats could be hired
from the local disability hire shop at the side of the hotel.
The dining area was wheelchair friendly,
but it was a tight squeeze getting passed some of the tables,
and as I’m a tall man I found that I couldn’t get my legs under
the tables. It would be unfair of me to comment on the food as
I usually state that it’s all down to individual taste, but I
will state that although there wasn’t a lot of choice there was
food to suit most palates.
No matter where I went in the hotel
including the indoor swimming area it was wheelchair friendly
and I found all the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel
was suitable for all types of wheelchair users assisted or
independent.
The entertainment at the hotel was mainly
organ players, though I guess this will change in the main
season July / August. I usually like to take part in the daily
activities, but I found non available, but I guess that the
month of May is too early in the season?
While I was there, the hotel was under
refurbishment by the new owners “Grand Bali Group,”, and there
were around fifty four wheelchair friendly rooms available.
Having said this I was informed the new owners were going to cut
the amount of wheelchair rooms available down to six. So you
should check this out before you book your holiday. Also the
dining room was being refurbished with new hotplate equipment
being installed, so how this will affect future wheelchair
holiday makers to the hotel I’m not sure, but I would be
interested to hear from wheelchair users as to whether the new
equipment in the dining area caused any problems.
The area outside the hotel and the roads
leading to the seafront were wheelchair friendly with dropped
kerbs everywhere and the seafront itself almost to Magaluf were
wheelchair friendly.
Altogether I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at
the Hotel Vora Nova. What affect the new refurbishments will
make on future wheelchair users to the hotel I have no idea, but
as I stated, I would be delighted to hear from other wheelchair
users staying at the hotel after the refurbishments are
complete.

My Rating
for the Hotel Vora Nova
Disabled Access
Overall I can state that "Hotel
Vora Nova is wheelchair friendly," but when booking a
holiday, you must state categorically that you would like the “wheelchair
friendly accommodation” and get it confirmed in writing.
Entertainment
Although the entertainment that was laid on
was mainly an organist, we put up with it and
enjoyed it.
Food
I thought that the food was good.
There were not many choices of meals to choose from for adult
and children alike, but quality is down to individual taste
