Bird of Paradise
She shone like a crimson star, and He gave her
the moon before she even knew its design.
She had a glow that never waned--
a brilliance that never dulled--no matter how many
clouds passed over her house. Those storms
begot lucidity, and she played in the rain.
A fair sky seen through a window
was the vision of her soul,
and a flower blooming in a canyon
was the picture of her heart.
Midnight prayers saw her through grief
and led her to enlightenment.
She reinvented reverence,
and she learned to fly.

Recollection
I am haunted by a vision from a
forgotten dream
of a stranger whose lips touched mine with a familiarity
that defied the very essence of his obscurity.
Could it be the echo of a lover from another time,
or do I behold an image of what is to come?
Today I watched the sun set, marvelled at the way
it colored the clouds like butterfly wings,
and I thought of my stranger.
I thought of what is to come,
and I thought of you.
