"One tear is not enough"
Childhood to adult is not always full of tears
Hello My Friends
"One tear is not enough"
ISBN: 1-4137-1686-5
Synopsis
(One "tear is not enough" is not just referring to "tears of sadness," but also "tears of joy and laughter," and the reader will be holding their sides with some of the antics that Celia gets up to)
An inspirational novel in the finest traditions
Set against a panoramic background from England to India and spanning eight decades, this epic family saga follows the courageous and spirited Celia, as she overcomes hardship and tragedy to truly define the human spirit. Against all odds, she survives the death of her beloved Bill Tucker, a savage mental institution. And blind and going deaf, she raises her brother's five children as her own.
In this epic romantic / family saga, we follow the life of Celia Cartwright as she grows up. At nineteen, she shows the courage and spirit that will follow her through her life, as she tries to protest her family's move to Yorkshire. She has fallen in love with Bill Tucker and they plan to marry. But at the turn of the last century young girls obeyed their parents. Bill and Celia were forbidden to marry. Later, Celia's parents relented somewhat and allowed Bill to visit Celia in their new home in Yorkshire. Two years on, the wedding date was set after the family had finally accepted Bill.
However, just before the marriage is to take place, Bill is killed in an accident.
Celia appeared to have lost her will to live. She was placed in a savage mental institution where she spent the next 25 years. Released to her loving family, Celia's life began again. Her fear of doctors and hospitals kept Celia from saying anything as she noticed her eyesight gradually worsening. One morning Celia wakes up to find she is totally blind. This handicap does not stop her from moving in with her brother Tony, after his wife leaves him. She raises his five children as her own. As the years go on, Celia's hearing begins to fail, but she faithfully tends "her children". Until her brother remarries and forces Celia to leave his home.
This is an inspiring novel of love, family and triumph over tragedy.
And, one tear is not enough, gives a look at just how destructive some families can be.
