Stormscape
By
Sheila Littleton
I watched the sea
as it turned over in its sleep.
The sky, brazen in the distance,
bent over the water.
Clouds, black, pregnant with thunder,
spat out lightning lances,
warnings of the coming storm.
The air was still, expectant,
rain finally pockmarked the surface
of the sea.
The storm rose to its full fury,
marrying with the riven waves below.

Strong Spirits
By
Sheila Littleton
There weren't many ghosts at the
haunting,
they'd gone off to party all night,
with shrouds and cobwebs, dust and bones,
and faces supernaturally white.
We waited in vain for them to appear,
hoping to be well and truly scared,
while the spooks boogied and floated,
we waited, but they didn't care.
It was their first bash for 300 years,
so we couldn't blame them at all.
After all that time, lying in the ground,
they were determined to have a ball.
When dawn's light whispered over the
graveyard
they returned incandescent with glee.
"Let's make another date, this time, not so late,"
Said the Lady in White - "The next one's on me."

Wife of WVM
By
Sheila Littleton
I'm the wife
of White Van Man.
I'm the wife
who left White Van Man.
I'm the wife,
who's doin' what she can,
To get back
to what she was
Pre White Van Man!
(with thanks to Kevin Fegan who is the playwright of WVM). He's a very respected poet and playwright and has a play coming up on R4 sometime in April. He was writer in residence at a number of prisons and campaigned on behalf of a prisoner - "Alex", who'd been in prison for over 20 years. His original offence was of setting fire to a pair of curtains. "Alex" had been refused release or parole time and time again. I don't know whether he's still in prison, but when you think of the specimens who are released - I can see Kevin's point of view.
