The Key
Her non-existence
behind locked door
is of design...calculated...
a death in kind.
What reason?
Silence is preferable
to answer.
It is her reason.
And the predator
does not stalk dead prey...
does not seek mind's invasion...
does not attempt the awakening
of her aspect.
The predator's
pleasure
is derived from the hunt,
and she is left alone...
locked door intact.
What becomes
her redemption...her rebirth?
Nonexistence is disordered
on occasion...
the eyes of a stranger
glimpse her soul...
a stranger's voice
speaks only to her.
Though
frightening,
a fleeting awareness...
a stranger
possesses the key
that will open the door.

The Epitaph
I walk here often,
among the forgotten souls.
Some think it strange,
but I find a peace...a calm...
that I do not feel
where the living dwell.
They rest above ground
in their marble, granite,
and concrete sanctuaries.
Their misfortune,
to die in a city built below the sea...
thus the irony, if buried,
they will drown.
There are so many
names without faces here,
I've learned but a few.
Some lived long...
some had only a beginning...
and then,
there are those
who left the world
somewhere in between.
It is a city of the dead
filled with those who,
..loved
..suffered pain
..inflicted pain
..followed dreams
..lived nightmares.
If I knew of them
I would write their stories,
discover their secrets...
applaud their successes,
and suffer their defeats.
Each time I walk among them,
I learn a few more names.
And try, in some way,
to acknowledge their
long forgotten purpose.
There is one
I visit each time...
I find his epitaph
both haunting,
and profound truth.
His name is Jonathan.
Born 1862...died 1903.
His epitaph reads...
'First know me
and understand me,
then forgive me if you need to,
for I was only a man...'
And each time I read
his chosen words,
I regret
not having the opportunity
to know this man.

Parchment Scenes
Gathered to
junction,
rainbow hues...
as sable brush
strokes words of Muse.
His parchment speaks
in canvas scenes
from words to color,
today's visions...
tomorrow's dreams.
Of palest pink
dawn's sky appeals.
Golden rays
quench emerald fields.
Day's azure sky
seeks rapture's door.
Eve's crimson tide
meets barren shore.
From gray horizon
peaked to storm,
twilight's amber flames
are born.
Midnight's black
frames moon sent beams.
As silver threads
weave stardust dreams.
His words
transcend
parchment's prose.
The words of Muse
lend soul's repose.
To word's design,
his palette seeks...
in canvas scenes
his parchment speaks.
